The GSLBAA Board of Directors has discussed a broader effort to mentor those inverested in an aviation career, foster interest in aviation in general and particularly promote business aviation as a desirable career choice. As such, the Board has formed a Mentoring Committee to have a more robust and directed effort in this area. The first Mentoring Committee meeting was September 25 at Jetlinx in St Louis and was attended by: Roger Mollman, Keith Mueller, Laura O’Brien, Jeff Rapp, Suzie Kuhmar, Pete Sadlo, Jason Beste, and Mike Ziemann. Discussion centered around promoting business aviation as a career choice in such areas as; women, college aviation students, exiting military, maintenance technicians and middle school students. With each committee member representing a particular area, discussion focused on goals for future involvement in career days, job fairs, STEM events and scholarship promotion. Since many events such as STEM initiatives and career days are already planned for schools and colleges, involving business aviation ambassadors will be a first step in promoting business aviation as a career choice. Discussion also included possible involvement in the upcoming 2018 Spirit Airshow and STEM.
